Water For Elephants

Studio
– Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
(Previous Film: Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son)
Director - Francis Lawrence (Previous Film: I Am Legend)

In a nutshell....

Jacob Jankowski, now ninety, remembers his teenage days when he was a veterinary student and was put in charge of caring caring for a circus menagerie. There he met and fell in love with the beautiful equestrian star, Marlena, married to August, a charismatic but twisted animal trainer.

Based on one of the most famous novels of recent times, Water For Elephants has a decent storyline, and the potential to be a nice drama. The setting seems to be perfectly stylised and the trailer has an evidence of some brilliant cinematography. Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz form a wonderful trio which will be the main reason why people will flock to the theatres. But with a romantic drama centred based in a circus, I'm not sure how keen the audiences will be to watch this one, especially those who haven't read the novel. I think this film will not have a great box office opening irrespective of it being good or bad, and I hope it doesn't end up looking like a circus.

Madea's Big Happy Family

Studio – Lionsgate (Previous Film: The Lincoln Lawyer)
Director - Tyler Perry (Previous Film: For Colored Girls)

In a nutshell....

Shirley wants to gather her three adult children, Tammy, Byron and Kimberly, and share the news of her ill health as a family with them, but the they have their own problems. Tammy cannot manage her unruly children or her broken marriage, Kimberly is gripped with anger and removes it on her husband, and Byron is under pressure to deal drugs after spending two years in jail. Now it's upto Madea, with the help of aunt Bam, to gather the clan and make things right.

Madea comes back to the theatres with another story and a different situation. These Tyler Perry films have never done well at any level, be it the box office or with the fans. However, there are some who would still prefer to watch this popcorn entertainer, especially those who love mindless comedies. I don't have much to say about this one as you either like such films or hate them. But I'd be shocked to see this one achieving some sort of success.
