Fast Five

Studio
– Universal Pictures
(Previous Film: Your Highness)
Director - Justin Lin (Previous Film: Fast & Furious)

In a nutshell....

As ex-cop Brian O'Conner and conman Dominic Toretto assemble an elite team of top racers to carry out their last job in Rio De Janeiro, a corrupt businessman wants them dead. Also, the hard-nosed federal agent, Luke Hobbs, wants them behind bars. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns that he can't separate the good guys from the bad and now has to rely on his instincts to corner his prey.

More excitement, more thrills, more drama, more action and more adventure is what this fifth instalment of the Fast & Furious series has in store for its most ardent fans. Justin Lin brought a fresh vision to this series when he directed Tokyo Drift. Since then the films have got better in terms of entertainment and style. With Fast Five, the telling takes another step towards advancement in all arenas of filmmaking, especially the shot taking. Excellent cinematography, a power packed star cast and exotic Brazilian locations will definitely pull huge crowds to the cinema halls across the globe. This film is going to see, without a shred of doubt, a marvellous opening. Whether the story telling is going to be as good, remains to be seen.

Dum Maaro Dum

Studio
– Fox Star Studios
(Previous Film: Khichdi - The Movie)
Director - Rohan Sippy (Previous Film: Bluffmaster)

In a nutshell....

Multiple lives collide brutally at Goa airport, as Lorry, Vishnu, Joki, Zoe and Biscuta get involved in the world of drugs, in different capacities. Now it is upto Vishnu to unmask the mysterious drug lord, whose menacing ways have plagued Goa with drugs, and bring him down.

Stylish and hard hitting.... these two words define Dum Maaro Dum. Rohan Sippy was spectacular with Bluffmaster, no matter what others have got to say about it. It was a refreshing film. And with this drug tale, Sippy seems to be coming back with a better and serious idea. We may have seen many films in our Hindi film industry, based on drugs et al, but Dum Maaro Dum seems to be the real deal, perhaps the best of all attempts so far. But, I'd be highly disappointed if this does not come to be true. Especially when there's been so much of intense promotions and the controversial title track. Besides, the duo of Abhishek and Sippy is an impressive one. Also, the new comer Daggubati, and the ever promising Babbar, will be the ones to watch out for. I think this film will have a far better opening than Abhishek's previous release, Game, despite having an Adults certification.

Arthur

Studio – Warner Bros. Pictures (Previous Film: Sucker Punch)
Director - Jason Winer (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Arthur Bach is a boozy playboy who is about to inherit his father's wealth if he agrees to marry an heiress, Susan Johnson. But he falls in love with a working class woman Naomi Quinn, and turns to his nanny Hobson, who would help him choose between money and love,

I haven't watched the original yet and I'm glad I won't have the chance of watching this one either. This remake might seems to be less interesting and humorous than the original considering the US reviews I read. The trailer has some really funny scenes and while previewing this one for the US visitors, I thought the film might be equally enticing. Considering the cast, especially Helen Mirren and Russell Brand, it was sad to read the fate of this film at the US box office.

(Last seen in: The Tempest)
Helen Mirren - Victoria (Last seen in: Red)

Beastly

Production Cos.CBS Films (Previous Film: Faster), Storefront Films (Debut)
Director - Daniel Barnz (Previous Film: Phoebe In Wonderland)

In a nutshell....

A contemporary take on one of the most famous stories of all time, 'Beauty And The Beast', Beastly is about a young guy from New York who is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.

Alex Pettyfer did a decent job in I Am Number Four and so I thought he'd do well with a role offering better scope to act. Vanessa Anne Hudgens also got a quick release after this one with Sucker Punch in the U.S. But I think the actors never thought once before signing this film. I too expected this one to be a decent one if not good, but it faltered at many places. The audiences didn't even turn up after the first weekend as this film has no appeal whatsoever, even for the most ardent fans of the lead pair.

Runtime - 86 mins
Genre - Fantasy/Drama/Romance
Rated - 12A

Principal Cast

Alex Pettyfer – Kyle
(Last seen in: I Am Number Four)
Vanessa Anne Hudgens - Lindy (Last seen in: Bandslam)
Mary Kate Olsen - Kendra (Last seen in: The Wackness)

Principal Crew

Daniel Barnz, Alex Flinn (novel) - Writers

Mandy Walker - Director of Photography
Todd E. Miller, Thomas J. Nordberg - Editors
Marcelo Zarvos - Music Director

Film’s USP

Contemporary version of Beauty And The Beast
