Your Highness

Studio – Universal Pictures (Previous Film: Hop)
Director - David Gordon Green (Previous Film: Pineapple Express)

In a nutshell....

Thadeous has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Both the brothers now have to go on an epic quest to save their father's kingdom. Isabel is Thadeous's love interest, and when Belladonna is kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar, the brothers must also save the virginal bride of Fabious.

When one film offers you so much it's almost impossible for it to falter, not atleast on all levels. Your Highness offers almost everything available on the filmy menu. It's got comedy, action, magic, it's adventurous, and also offers some eye candy. Pineapple Express was one hell of a ride, and if David Gordon Green can reproduce the same magic with Your Highness, then I think he will be regarded as one of the best comedy directors of recent times. With a marvellous cast involved and some super humour to go with it, I'm sure this film will have a great opening at the box office, as it did in the United States.

Winnie The Pooh

Studio – Twentieth Century Fox Animation (Previous Film: TRON: Legacy)
Directors - Stephen Anderson (Previous Film: Meet The Robinsons), Jon Hall (Previous Film: Princess And The Frog)

In a nutshell....

Winnie reunites with his friends Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo as the gang sets out to save Christopher Robin. Considering Pooh had gone out to get some honey, his day starts to get rather busy as he now also needs to find a solution to fix Eeyore's tail.

I'm so glad Disney brought Pooh back to the big screen. The animal gang is loved by people across the world, kids and adults alike. Also, both the directors know the tricks of the trade when it comes to animation, and have had great success with their previous ventures. With a good voiceover cast, and the traditional animation coming back in these times of live animation and 3D, I'm sure families would flock to the theatres and have a great weekend time.

Scream 4

Studio
– Dimension Films
(Previous Film: Piranha)
Director - Wes Craven (Previous Film: My Soul To Take)

In a nutshell....

Sidney Prescott returns to her hometown of Woodsboro on the 15th anniversary of the first Woodsboro murders, for a tour of her new self-help book. She encounters her former allies Sheriff Dewey Riley and entertainment journalist Gale Weathers, as well as her younger cousin Jill Roberts, her best friend Kirby Reed, and several of Jill's high school friends. The slasher killer Ghostface returns, and is stalking and killing Jill's friends and several other people in the area. This time the killer is taking references from horror movie remakes. In order to survive, Sidney, Dewey, Gale and Jill will have to anticipate and follow the conventions of the 21st century horror films to determine who the killer is.

Wes Craven returns to direct another Scream film full of murders and blondes. I couldn't help but sympathise with the kind of trailer they've made for this one. It lacks the thrills and chills, and by no means feels like an interesting horror. The quality of the films have drastically reduced ever since the first Scream film released, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this one being the worst amongst all. However, the story is quite interesting this time but whether it's executed well remains to be seen. On the box office, Scream 4 will do well because of the large fan base it has but I hope the fans get something better than the last two films.

Red Riding Hood

StudioWarner Bros. Pictures (Previous Film: Sucker Punch)
Director - Catherine Hardwicke (Previous Film: Twilight)

In a nutshell....

Valerie is a beautiful young woman who is in love with a brooding young lad, Peter. But, Valerie's parents want her to marry the wealthy Irons. Valerie and Peter plan to run away but they learn that Valerie's older sister is killed by the werewolf that prowls the surrounding dark forest. The villagers had, for years, maintained a truce with the wolf offering it a monthly animal sacrifice. But the wolf has grown wilder and taken to hunting down humans. Angered by this, the villagers seek the help of a famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon, to take revenge on the beast. Solomon's arrival brings unintended consequences, and he warns the villagers that the beast who takes human form in the day could be anyone of them. Will they find out who the werewolf is?

Based on one of the most famous fairy tales of all time, Red Riding Hood reminds me of my childhood. Not because it was as dark as this film is, or I'd known a werewolf, but because of the way my mother used to recite the whole story of the Little Red Cap and the Big Bad Wolf. That is why the director, Catherine Hardwicke, has a huge challenge at hand as she needs to portray and tell the story of the Red Riding Hood with equal effect, just like mothers recite stories to their children. I know this isn't a film targeted to kids but the storytelling will need to be very engaging, especially because we all are well familiar with the story. The fact that this film's directed by a woman might help. Besides, she's also got the experience of doing a werewolf film, Twilight. Thus I believe this film will be successful with a decent run at the box office. This is what I'd written for last week's US release preview. And how wrong was I. This film is worse than Twilight, that's what most filmy freaks and critics in America said. This woman first converted the child version to a teenage story and made it Twilight like with the ever doubtful Amanda Seyfried at the helm. I just hope, for the sake of this film, Twilight faithfuls enjoy it because no one else will. Avoid!
