Sucker Punch

StudioWarner Bros. Pictures (Previous Film: Red Riding Hood)
Director - Zack Snyder (Previous Film: Legend Of The Guardians: Owls Of Ga'Hoole)

In a nutshell....

Baby Doll is put in a mental asylum by her stepfather where she's to go under lobotomy in 5 days' time. In her imaginary world, Baby Doll joins forces with four other female inmates to escape the facility. Reality and fantasy mix and merge as the five girls battle enormous creatures and enemies to retrieve five items they need to help them escape the clutches of the captors.

I cannot imagine any other director at the helm of this film as Zack Snyder is the perfect choice to direct films like Sucker Punch that tap the fantasy and fictional worlds as well as deal with reality in the parallel. He made reality look like fantasy in 300, and fantasy like reality in Watchmen; and both those films were fascinating. Therefore, this film, without a doubt, has to be very good. The story's interesting, it has an all attractive girls cast, it has a lot of action, it's releasing worldwide, and is in 3D. This film will set the cash registers ringing and perhaps be the biggest film of 2011, thus far. Certainly my pick of the week.

The Eagle

Studios – Toledo Productions (Debut), Film 4, Focus Features
(Previous Film: 127 Hours, Biutiful)
Director - Kevin MacDonald (Previous Film: State Of Play)

In a nutshell....

Young centurion Marcus Aquila arrives from Rome to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion, commander of which was his father, Flavius Aquila. Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia, along with his British slave, Esca. Together, they confront savage tribes and find the lost legion's Golden emblem, The Eagle of the Ninth.

Although set in 140 AD, The Eagle seems to be entertaining enough for the present audiences with some adventure in store. The recreation of the historic age of the second century should be interesting. Although there aren't big names in this one, the film relies on the young shoulders of Tatum and Bell. This one didn't do a great job at the US and UK box offices and I think it wouldn't fare well here either. But I think it is worth watching once for the efforts put in by the makers and the cast.

Happy Husbands

StudioPhenomenal Crafts Ltd. (Debut)
Director - Anay (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Happy Husbands is about the the lives of husbands and their philosophies towards life after marriage. Some husbands love their wives, some love their lives but Happy Husbands love their wives and lives.

When a film has the audacity to release on a weekend featuring two world cup quarter finals, one can only expect two things; either the film is so good that the makers don't care for the world cup and are sure that people will come in huge numbers to watch their fabulous piece of work, or, the film is so pathetic that the makers wish to have a quiet release and then slither into their hideouts even before anyone knows about the release. I guess this film is a combination of the two; it is surely pathetic but the makers feel they've made something so brilliant that people will arrive in flocks, damning the world cup. A group of idiotic debutants come together to make a stupid, cheap film that shouts out loud that even the posters are not worth looking at. I didn't even want to preview this one but since I wish to give you all as much information as I can, I had no choice. Please save your souls and don't even think of going for this horrendous venture. Thumbs down!!!!

Barney's Version

Studio – Serendipity Point Films (Previous Release: You Might As Well Live)
Director - Richard J. Lewis (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Barney Panofsky, a 65 year old rude, blunt and foul mouthed television producer, reflects on his life's successes, gaffes and failures. The film is adapted from a book of the same name.

Paul Giamatti is the heart and soul of this film and I think he's going to be awesome as it already can be seen from the trailers. Besides, this film did very well in the UK and US. People and critics loved Giamatti's act and also liked the way the story unfolded. It should do well at the box office and has also done well in the festival circuit.

Runtime - 132 mins
Genre - Drama
Rated - A

Principal Cast

Paul Giamatti – Barney Panofsky (Last seen in: The Last Station)
Jake Hoffman – Michael Panofsky (Last seen in: Click)
Rosamund Pike – Miriam Grant Panofsky (Last seen in: Made In Dagenham)

Principal Crew

Michael Konyves - Writer
Guy Dufaux - Director of Photography
Susan Shipton – Editor
Pasquale Catalano - Music Director

Film’s USP

Probably first of its kind from our own industry.
