Indian Releases

Yamla Pagla Deewana

Studio – Top Angle Productions (Previous Release: Nanhe Jaisalmer: A Dream Come True)
Director – Samir Karnik (Previous Work: Nanhe Jaisalmer: A Dream Come True)

In a nutshell....

The happy go lucky duo of father and son, Dharam and Gajodhar, does the perfect con jobs in Banaras until one day Paramveer, an NRI from Vancouver, comes to Banaras claiming that he is Gajodhar’s brother and they’d been separated in childhood. The duo willingly accepts Paramveer into their fold only to exploit his muscle power to serve their con games. Gajodhar later makes a plan to help Paramveer to win his girlfriend back from the clutches of her orthodox family. What follows is madness and confusion.

The most important thing in this film is the star power of the father and his sons. This film, no doubt, promises a lot in terms of fun and entertainment, and there have been a lot of promotions going on. Samir Karnik hasn’t got a good record to boast of; however this time it seems the tables are going to turn.

Hostel

Studio – Matrix Media (Debut)
Director - Manish Gupta (Previous Work: The Stoneman Murders)

In a nutshell....

Hostel is about the experiences Karan has during his time at a hostel. It's about the ragging and the politics of the hostel system.

Writer/director Manish Gupta has a liking for hard hitting films and he usually draws out characters from real life experiences and incidences. But the lead actors he's banking on this time around, haven't had the best of careers. However, the film seems to have the reality appeal and therefore should make the audiences go for it.

Turning 30!!!

Studio – Prakash Jha Productions (Previous Release: Raajneeti)
Director - Alankrita Shrivastava (Previous Work: Open Doors)

In a nutshell....

Naina grapples with a heartbreak, and crisis in her advertising career as she's turning 30. She tries to rediscover herself as she learns about life, love and career, and blossoms into a woman of substance.

This film seems to be on the lines of many typical Hollywood films based on a single, 30 something woman, who has a crisis situation in her life and eventually discovers love and herself. Having said that, there's barely a film made with such a story in India, particularly because it is so women oriented. Therefore I have some hopes from this one, as Gul Panag acts reasonably well, plus the trailer suggests it to be worthy enough and it comes from the production banner which has a proven track record.

Runtime - Unknown
Genre - Drama/Comedy
Rated - Unknown

Principal Cast

Gul Panag – Naina Singh (Last seen in: Hello Darling)
Purab Kohli – Jai (Last seen in: Hide and Seek)
Siddharth Makkar – Rishabh (Last seen in: Dus Tola)

Principal Crew

Alankrita Shrivastava- Writer
Akshay Singh - Director of Photography
Santosh Mandal – Editor
Siddharth, Suhas - Music Directors

Film’s USP

Probably first of its kind from our own industry.

Mumbai Mast Kallander

Studio
– White Poppkorn (Debut)
Director - Aman Mihani (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Mumbai Mast Kallander is the story about two brothers from a small town who wish to become dons, and two female room partners who also wish to make it big. Some other characters come to the fore and all of that leads to madness.

No matter how much I wish small budget films should be made, such films make me feel it's better off otherwise. The way this film seems to be made and the coming together of people with unknown pasts, barring a few, makes me worry about the fate of this film. Who's going to watch it with so many other better options around. Besides, it doesn't even have a good storyline and also seems weak in terms of acting talent. God save the makers!

The Green Hornet

Studio – Original Film (Previous Release: The Bounty Hunter)
Director – Michel Gondry (Previous Work: Be Kind Rewind)

In a nutshell....

Britt Reid, a wealthy playboy, inherits his father, James Reid’s media company after the latter is killed because he always wished to fight crime. One of the company’s employees, Kato, is also a kung fu expert, and helps Britt take up the challenge of finishing crime from the city. The two decide to do it together to protect the law by breaking it, and their ultimate aim is to bring down the Russian mafia, Chudnofsky.

The Green Hornet, based on a successful comic character, has a nice star cast and great appeal to it. The film’s going to be a full entertainer with girls, guns and fun and seems to be a big money churner already. I’m waiting to see how this hero, with no super powers, brings the mafia down.

Genre - Crime/Action/Thriller

Rated – U/A

Seth Rogen – Britt Reid/The Green Hornet (Last seen in: Funny People)
Jay Chou – Kato (English Debut)

Cameron Diaz – Lenore Case (Last seen in: Knight and Day)

Principal Crew

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg - Writers

John Schwartzman - Director of Photography

Seth Rogen as The Green Hornet + Christoph Waltz as the bad guy + 3D.
