The Dilemma

Studio – Imagine Entertainment, Spyglass Entertainment (Previous Release: Robin Hood, The Tourist)
Director – Ron Howard (Previous Work: Angels and Demons)

In a nutshell....

Ronny and Nick are the best of friends with a brotherly bond among them. Ronny has a girlfriend, Beth and Nick is married to Geneva. Both the friends are working on a project which if goes great, they can launch their company. In the meanwhile, Ronny learns that his girlfriend is involved with another man, thus he takes up investigation to find out about the other man. During this investigation, Ronny also comes across Nick's secret which if he reveals, will shatter their friendship and along with that, the hopes of launching their company. Thus, the dilemma.

Well this one's sure going to be one of the best films of the first quarter of the year. The awesome duo of Vaughn and James, coupled with two beautiful actresses and super comic situations show a lot of promise. It is a potential money churner at the box office and will be a perfect start to the year. I'd be highly disappointed if this one doesn't meet my expectations.

The Green Hornet

Studio – Original Film (Previous Release: The Bounty Hunter)
Director – Michel Gondry (Previous Work: Be Kind Rewind)

In a nutshell....

Britt Reid, a wealthy playboy, inherits his father, James Reid’s media company after the latter is killed because he always wished to fight crime. One of the company’s employees, Kato, is also a kung fu expert, and helps Britt take up the challenge of finishing crime from the city. The two decide to do it together to protect the law by breaking it, and their ultimate aim is to bring down the Russian mafia, Chudnofsky.

The Green Hornet, based on a successful comic character, has a nice star cast and great appeal to it. The film’s going to be a full entertainer with girls, guns and fun and seems to be a big money churner already. I’m waiting to see how this hero, with no super powers, brings the mafia down.

Burning Palms

Studio – Films In Motion (Previous Release: Wrong Side Of Town)
Director - Christopher B. Landon (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Burning Palms is a tale that interlaces five different stories of people from Los Angeles. Each character explores a taboo and ends up towards a dark and comic fate.

Landon has a decent track record of writing films well and this time he's trying his hand at direction. The film seems to have a very interesting tale that tackles the dark sides of human tendencies and deals with unexplored taboos in a lighter way rather than the usual grim ways. I think it's going to do really well but only cater to a niche.

Barney's Version

Studio – Serendipity Point Films, Fandango (Previous Release: You Might As Well Live, La Passione)
Director - Richard J. Lewis (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Barney Panofsky, a 65 year old rude, blunt and foul mouthed television producer, reflects on his life's successes, gaffes and failures. The film is adapted from a book of the same name.

Paul Giamatti is the heart and soul of this film and I think he's going to be awesome as it already can be seen from the trailers. This is a character driven film and it should do well at the box office as it has already done well in the festival circuit.

Runtime - 132 mins
Genre - Drama
Rated - R

Paul Giamatti – Barney Panofsky (Last seen in: The Last Station)
Jake Hoffman – Michael Panofsky (Last seen in: Click)
Rosamund Pike – Miriam Grant Panofsky (Last seen in: Made In Dagenham)

Michael Konyves - Writer
Guy Dufaux - Director of Photography
Susan Shipton – Editor
Pasquale Catalano - Music Director

Probably first of its kind from our own industry.
