In a nutshell....
Nina, a ballerina from New York City works with a ballet company, and is completely obsessed with dance like most other ballerinas. For the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, director Thomas Leroy replaces the company's prima ballerina, Beth, with Nina. Nina faces competition when a new ballerina, Lily, comes to the fore. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan with guile and sensuality. Nina is the perfect personification of the White Swan, but Lily is equally brilliant as the Black Swan. In the pursuit of exploring her dark side, Nina becomes reckless and her rivalry with Lily takes a new form. Will Nina succeed to play the Black Swan equally well?
I need not say much about this film because it's Aronofsky's brilliance that speaks for itself. He's got a fabulous list of off beat yet splendid films to his credit, and also knows exactly how to use the dark side of a human. Besides, this film's done awesome in the US, including getting rave reviews from the critics and viewers. Natalie's a charmer and she's already won a Golden Globe for the best actress this year. Sure this film's going to be a treat to watch. Miss it, regret it.

In a nutshell....
Ronny and Nick are the best of friends with a brotherly bond among them. Ronny has a girlfriend, Beth and Nick is married to Geneva. Both the friends are working on a project which if goes great, they can launch their company. In the meanwhile, Ronny learns that his girlfriend is involved with another man, thus he takes up investigation to find out about the other man. During this investigation, Ronny also comes across Nick's secret which if he reveals, will shatter their friendship and along with that, the hopes of launching their company. Thus, the dilemma.
Well this one's sure going to be one of the best films of the first quarter of the year. The awesome duo of Vaughn and James, coupled with two beautiful actresses and super comic situations show a lot of promise. It is a potential money churner at the box office and will be a perfect start to the year. I'd be highly disappointed if this one doesn't meet my expectations.

In a nutshell....
Becky gets fired from the post of a morning TV show producer and therefore is desperately in search of another job. She accepts the job of a producer for the struggling morning show, Daybreak, without the knowledge of the kind of co workers she's about to have. As she tries to make progress with the new show, Becky has to tackle a sexist co-host, an egoistical news reporter and improve the show's dismal TRP.
This one promises to be a nice film with plenty of situational comedy plus some emotions. Besides, it's going to be exciting to see two Hollywood stalwarts, Ford and Keaton, as warring co-hosts. It seems to be one of those films that never win awards but always get appreciated by the audiences. It's time for some popcorn entertainment.

John Carpenter's The Ward
Studios – Echo Lake Productions, A Bigger Boat (Previous Releases: Joneses, Frozen)
Director - John Carpenter (Previous Work: Ghosts Of Mars)
In a nutshell....
When an old farmhouse is burnt down by Kristen, a distraught young woman, she is taken by the police to a psychiatric hospital. There, she finds herself amongst the company of four girls, who are similarly wayward. Kristen's therapist tries to help her but she does not co-operate. When the ward is locked at night, she notices a shadowy phantom roaming in the halls. Her inquisitive nature leads Kristen to find the truth behind it and she soon realises that nobody gets out of the ward alive.
John Carpenter, the master of horror films, comes after almost a decade with this horror film based on the old school concept of haunted mental institutions. The Ward seems scary and gripping with an all women principal cast. It has all the ingredients of a typical scary film and also has the backing of WB pictures which sure means we can expect a lot from it.

In a nutshell....
Set in the early 70s, NEDS is the story of John and his life in the educational environment. Mocked for getting 100 % marks in an exam, he grows into bright teenager who has ambitions of going to the university. But his home life is blighted by the nightly spectacle of his drunken dad beating up his mum. One day a middle class snobbish mother of a friend warns John to stay away from her son. This has a huge impact on John and he succumbs to the gang culture which also earns him acceptance and respect from peers, initially.
Writer/director Peter Mullan brings in real life situations from the Glasgow backdrop into this film. It seems to be a super depiction of the Non-Educated Delinquents with a powerful performance by the debutant Conor McCarron who has been praised a lot in the festival circuit for his role as John. One cannot expect low budget films to be visual extravaganzas but can certainly hope for a marvellous telling and this is exactly what NEDS has in store.
