Indian Releases

Murder 2

Studio – Vishesh Films (Previous Film: Crook: It's Good To Be Bad)
Director - Mohit Suri (Previous Film: Crook: It's Good To Be Bad)

In a nutshell....

Arjun, an ex-cop in Goa, earns his bread by doing all sorts of wrong and odd things. He is appointed by a gangster, involved in flesh trade and a prostitution business, to search for the girls who have escaped his clutches. Arjun realises that the missing girls were all connected to one phone call. It is now upto him to find the person responsible for the disappearances, and also save the girl he likes, Priya.

A bold film with a beautiful actress. This is a tried and tested formula the Bhatts have been following since some time now. Murder worked superbly in favour of the makers, the cast and everybody else attached to the film. It also offered something new to the Indian audiences. Now, they wish to take it forward with a sequel, a much bolder and raunchier version. However, the Bhatts are also famous of lifting their stories straight off from a Hollywood or a foreign language film. And Murder 2 is no exception. Right from the story to even the promotional poster, everything seems to have been lifted from Korean filmmaker Kim Ki Duk's Bad Guy. Now the only thing that remains to be seen is whether they manage to replicate the success of Bad Guy. Like all Emraan Hashmi films, this one too has managed to churn out chart-bursting songs. At the box office, Murder 2 will do well considering the popularity of the first one.

Chillar Party

Studios – UTV Spot Boy (Previous Film: Main Aur Mrs. Khanna), SKBH Productions (Debut)
Director - Vikas Bahl (Debut), Nitesh Tiwari (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Chandan Nagar boasts a gang of seven innocent but feisty children who lead their lives carefree. Two strangers, Fatka and Bheedu, enter their lives and go on to become an inseparable part of Chillar Party. The lives of these kids get difficult as Bheedu's life is endangered because of a politician. Now it is upto the gang to save their friend and show that kids can move mountains.

Indian cinema is changing, and this year has seen quite a few good examples of that. And now, with Chillar Party, something different is in store for children. Unconventional and interesting, this film is Salman Khan Being Human's first production venture, and seems to have all the quintessential masalas for a super entertainer. The kids seem to be perfectly fit for their characters, and are lovable. The Ranbir Kapoor item number is doing very well, and Jhangiya's dialogues are loved by all. It sure has an appeal for everyone. I think this film will do very well and will change the way kids' films are made. The only doubt in my mind is whether the debutant directors are capable enough to pull this one off.

Larry Crowne

Studio – Universal Pictures (Previous Film: Bridesmaids)
Director - Tom Hanks (Previous Film: That Thing You Do!)

In a nutshell....

Larry Crowne, a Navy veteran, loses his job at a big-box store, and decides to enroll into community college to reinvent himself. He befriends a group of outcasts and also falls in love with speech professor, Mercedes Tainot.

Subjects such as rediscovering oneself and finding a meaning to life have been tapped before, many times. But, with Larry Crowne, things look and feel very different, and even new. Maybe it's just like rediscovering that kind of story altogether. After a 15 year break since his first and only film as writer/director had released,Tom Hanks is now ready for his second film. Larry Crowne seems to be an apt venture to return with, as the man at the helm. And as far as acting is concerned, it's a proven fact that Hanks is a master of such roles. The trailers are very impressive, and there seems to be a lot on offer. Julia Roberts is starring alongside Tom Hanks after 4 years since Charlie Wilson's War, and this pairing has a lot to expect from. Larry Crowne was considered to be average in the US where it released last week, disappointing those who expected a lot from the film.
