US Releases

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

Studios – Insurge Pictures (Debut), Island Def Jam Music Group, Magical Elves (Theatrical Debut) Productions (US Theatrical Debut)
MTV Films, AEG Live (Previous Film: Jackass 3D, Phish 3D)
Director - Jon Chu (Previous Film: Step Up 3D)

In a nutshell....

Never Say Never follows the life of the 16 year old pop star who rose to fame with his Youtube video. The documentary follows Bieber on tour, has some star interviews about Bieber and how he never gave up.

An excellent opportunity for those who thought Justin Bieber was a girl, to know how the young kid started off and rose to fame, without giving up. There's something in him which has made him a teenage sensation and a favourite with girls. After Step Up 3D, with his love for films based on music, Jon Chu brings another film in 3D. Never Say Never should be a huge hit considering the boy wonder's (or the girl wonder, as many believe) fan following across the globe. Whether it is an inspiring one or a complete dud, time will tell. But this one has me already excited, despite me not being a fan of the kid.

Just Go With It

Studios – Columbia Pictures, Happy Madison Productions
(Previous Film: How Do You Know, Grown Ups)
Director - Dennis Dugan (Previous Film: Grown Ups)

In a nutshell....

Danny is a dentist who flirts around with women lying about his marriage woes. He really starts liking Palmer, to whom he has lied about his bad marriage life just like others. Palmer takes a real pity on him and their romance starts to grow. But, to take things forward, Palmer wants to meet Danny's wife to know exactly why they had a troubled marriage. Danny's in a fix now, as he is not married. So, he approaches his long time assistant cum friend Katherine, who is an ordinary looking woman. Things go out of control when Palmer misunderstands that Danny, and the now sexy looking Katherine, have children too, and she insists to meet them too.

Just Go With It is a remake of the 1969 hit Cactus Flower, which was also remade in Indian cinema as Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya in 2005. The storyline and situations are funny and both the earlier films have done well in a way, even at the box office. With Sandler and Aniston in the lead, one can expect fireworks from this film. But it faces a lot of competition this week, so whether it does well or not remains to be seen.

Cedar Rapids

Studios – Ad Hominem Enterprises (Previous Film: The Savages)
Director - Miguel Arteta (Previous Film: Youth In Revolt)

In a nutshell....

Tim Lippe, 34, has been living in Brown Valley, Wisconsin all his life, and pre-engaged to his 7th grade teacher, Vanderhei. He sells insurance for a living and gets a first chance to visit a metropolis, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he is supposed to save his company at an insurance convention. Not accustomed to the modern world, Tim is now smitten with a Nebraskan insurance agent, Joan, and in awe with his room-mates Wilkes and Zeigler.

Official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, Cedar Rapids seems to be humourous and efficient. Ed Helms looks the perfect nerd, and the ensemble too seems great. With a decent record of comedies backing the cast and the director, as well as the involvement of Fox Searchlight, this film sure should be a fun experience and worth a watch. However, it is a little sad that it is going to see a limited release.

In a nutshell....

Gnomeo and and Juliet are two garden gnomes who fall in love but have to face many obstacles as they are caught up in a feud between beighbours. The question is, will they find happiness among such madness?

Gnomeo & Juliet sounds exciting as nothing has really be done on gnomes before. The cast is spectacular and so is the director whose both the previous animated films have done really well. The grown ups might not enjoy but it sure seems like a treat for the little ones.

The Eagle

Studios – Toledo Productions (Debut), Film 4, Focus Features
(Previous Film: 127 Hours, Biutiful)
Director - Kevin MacDonald (Previous Film: State Of Play)

In a nutshell....

Young centurion Marcus Aquila arrives from Rome to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion, commander of which was his father, Flavius Aquila. Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia, along with his British slave, Esca. Together, they confront savage tribes and find the lost legion's Golden emblem, The Eagle of the Ninth.

Although set in 140 AD, The Eagle seems to be entertaining enough for the present audiences with some adventure in store. The recreation of the historic age of the second century should be interesting. Although there aren't big names in this one, the film can rely on the young shoulders of Tatum and Bell. This one will perhaps do a good job on the box office as it has a different appeal to it.

Runtime - 114 mins
Genre - Drama
Rated - PG-13

Principal Cast

Channing Tatum – Marcus Aquila
(Last seen in: The Dilemma)
Jamie Bell - Esca (Last seen in: Defiance)
Donald Sutherland - Uncle Aquila (Last seen in: The Mechanic)
