Stanley Ka Dabba

Studio
– Fox Star Studios
(Previous Film: Dum Maaro Dum)
Director - Amole Gupte (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Stanley Ka Dabba is about Stanley, a 10 year old child, who wants to be a better student and enjoy the school life in the most innovative manner. It is about rising from the filth around and make the world a better place to live.

We all know how talented Amole Gupte is. He writes and acts superbly, and now has turned a director with Stanley Ka Dabba. One should not forget that he was also supposed to direct Taare Zameen Par but due to a fall out could not do it, and was credited as the Creative Director. So, with so many achievements under his belt, one would obviously assume Stanley Ka Dabba to turn out to be a good film. However, that is not the case. It seems this film is much better than one can expect it to be. Not only the trailers suggest that, but also some people from the film fraternity, who had the opportunity of watching this film at a special screening, have tagged this film as a better product than Taare Zameen Par, which is some achievement. Most people accredited the man at the helm, Amole Gupte, but a greater number of people said that Partho is the next child wonder. No doubts about that as he is the son of such a talented father, the director of this film. There is great need for cinema about children in Bollywood. There have hardly been any films made on the young kids and their lives. I hope this film is exactly what it seems to be promising so far. It will have to rely on the word of mouth publicity for a greater success but for the time being, praises from the industry and the promotional content are doing the needful.

Ragini MMS

Studio
– Balaji Films
(Previous Film: Love Sex Aur Dhokha)
Director - Pawan Kripalani (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Ragini and Uday set out to spend a dirty weekend at a friend's farmhouse on the outskirts of Mumbai. The weekend gets dodgy as they realise the entire house is rigged with cameras. The cameras have already witnessed a paranormal activities, and now Ragini and Uday are at the mercy of these forces.

Balaji films struck gold with their unconventional and unusual bold venture Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. With Ragini MMS, they are foraying to another subject and premise untouched and unexplored by Indian makers. It seems to be bolder than LSD and meatier. However, this is a scary movie and that is the most refreshing thing about it. It does not seem to have cheap theatrics and cliched thrills. The actors aren't experienced which might just work against the film. Also, the director is making his debut with this one. Having said all that, Ragini MMS can certainly be one of those low budget films with debutant directors which turn out to be a surprise affair. With heavy publicity and excessive marketing, it sure has created a lot of curiosity among people, especially the youth, and I think it will live upto those expectations, and may perhaps start the scary movie wave in India.

Love U... Mr. Kalakaar!

Studio
– Rajshri Productions Pvt. Ltd.
(Previous Film: Isi Life Mein)
Director - S. Manasvi (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Sahil is an artist, a cartoonist who draws inspiration from anything and everything around him. Ritu is a management trainee whose world revolves debits, credits and turnovers. They both fall in love but Ritu's father believes that all artists are losers and wants Sahil to prove that he can be a successful businessman, only then would he permit his daughter's marriage to Sahil.

Rajshri Films have this idea, and have successfully conveyed through all their films, that there are good people and bad people. Most of their stories are simple and heart touching, and they all have done exceptionally well, barring one or two. Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! has exactly that sort of a story and appeal that the makers have portrayed in all their films. The trailer shouts out loud that this is a Rajshri product.... a love story that has family involvement. Honestly, today's makers have forgotten families and Rajshri have still got the belief that their simple, family oriented stories will win audiences across the globe. I hope this film does well. With the look of it, it seems this film was stuck for a while in the making process because the actors look younger like they used to 2-3 years back. However, that won't matter if the film is well made. Tusshar Kapoor is in good form but the same cannot be said for Amrita Rao, however she pulls off such roles with total finesse. The box office collections will only go up with the word of mouth publicity as is always the case with a Rajshri product.

Genre - Drama/Romance
Rated - U/A

Tusshar Kapoor - Sahil (Last seen in: Shor In The City)
Amrita Rao – Ritu (Last seen in: Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai)

S. Manasvi - Writer
Saurabh Vishwkarma - Director of Photography
Navnita Sen - Editor
Sandesh Shandilya - Music Director

Film’s USP

A typical Rajshri film

Shagird

Studio
– Reliance Entertainment
(Debut)
Director - Tigmanshu Dhulia (Previous Film: Charas)

In a nutshell....

Hanumant Singh, a veteran officer, has his own of doing things, and his tactics and ethics are questionable. He mentors a new recruit, Mohit, who has his own set of principles and ways of doing things. Bunty Bhaiya and Hanumant Singh work for a powerful politician, Rajmani Singh, who runs the state by unfair means. Everybody's principles are tested putting them in a difficult situation during an international kidnapping case.

It's always a treat to watch Nana Patekar, especially when he plays a 'sirphira', and he plays one in Shagird as well. This is another film based in Delhi, and the kind of crime world Tigmanshu Dhulia portrays in his films, it promises to be a decent entertainer. The film is based on corruption, and with such a strong cast that can act, this film will have a good chance at the box office. Shagird is the only film releasing this week that does not have a debutant director, which should work in its favour. But the such hard hitting films usually do not fare very well at the box office, especially with the lack of a big name star. So it remains to be seen how good this film actually is, and how well it is received by the audiences.

Priest

Studio
– Sony Pictures
(Previous Film: The Roommate)
Director - Scott Charles Stewart (Previous Film: Legion)

In a nutshell....

The Priest, a legendary warrior from the last Vampire war, lives in obscurity among other downtrodden humans in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the church. Priest breaks his sacred vows when his niece is captured by the vampires and has to protect her before they turn her into one of them. On his quest to save his niece, he is joined by the girl's boyfriend, a young sheriff, and a former warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly powers.

So much has been experimented in the sci-fi genre and majority of it has succeeded or at least had some or the other kind of impact, negative or positive. Priest is yet another attempt to be different in the family of these genres. I think it has an interesting story and looks impressive in terms of how it is made. I hope the makers have made proper use of the 3D technology and that this one isn't just like many other gimmicks. The actors are bankable and so I think Priest has a decent chance of having a good run on the box office.
