US Releases

X-Men: First Class

Studio – Marvel Studios (Previous Film: Thor)
Director - Matthew Vaughn (Previous Film: Kick Ass)

In a nutshell....

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr became Professor X and Magneto, they were two young close friends, trying to discover their powers for the first time. In the process, both have difference of opinions and thus end up going against each other, unwillingly.

The best part about these X-Men films going in the past and becoming character specific is that we get to learn a lot about their past, present and future. Wolverine showed us how Logan got his steel claws, and now with X-men: First Class we'd learn how the two most important mutants became who they are. The trailers are promising and the actors seem to be perfect for their roles. This film will see a massive opening at the box office, being so important in the series. And I'm sure this film has more to offer than plain action.

Beginners

Studio – Focus Features (Previous Film: Hanna)
Director - Mike Mills (US Theatrical Debut)

In a nutshell....

A young man, Oliver, is trying to deal with two stunning revelations that his 75 year old father, Hal, makes. He declares that he is gay, and that he is gravely ill.

Beginners was premièred at 2010's Toronto Film Festival, and was appreciated by the critics as they claimed this film has a lot of substance and is charming. Mike Mills has drawn references from his own life and has modelled Christopher Plummer's role on his own father, when he was 75. This, and the strong cast, definitely has a lot to offer. The plot is very interesting, and it seems some good performances are in store. I think this film will see a decent opening, and was it supposed to release on a different day, it would definitely have seen a greater turn up.

Love, Wedding, Marriage

Studio – IFC Films (Previous Film: An Invisible Sign)
Director - Dermont Mulroney (Debut)

In a nutshell....

Eva is a marriage counsellor, who gets married to Charlie. Her strong love for him starts going the other way when Eva's parents decide to divorce.

This film could've been miles better but for the sad cliches it seems to offer are just too terrible to digest. Those who have seen this film, describe it as a lame, pathetic and waste of time affair. It's not only cliched but as the viewers suggest, ultra lame. With a decent cast in it, I guess only the most excited fans will turn up to watch this one. Others might just want to avoid.

Submarine

Production Co.Film4 (Previous Film: 127 Hours)
Director - Richard Ayoade (Previous Film: Arctic Monkeys At The Apollo)

In a nutshell....

Oliver Tate, a teenager from Swansea, is cool and a literary genius in his head but in reality he is socially inept and unpopular. He is convinced that his parents are having tensions in their marriage life and that his mother, Jill, is willing to leave his father, Lloyd, for her life coach, Graham. Oliver wants to sort out his family issues his way, and while doing so he also wants to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, Jordana, before he turns 16.

We all go through teenage problems and issues, they've made us laugh and also made us sad. Now it's time to see someone else suffer and enjoy the teen life. Submarine was the official selection at Sundance, Toronto, London and Berlin film festivals in 2010. This fact says it all about the credibility of this film. Besides, it's got an overwhelming response from the festival goers and the critics for its storytelling and a brilliant debut by Craig Roberts. The UK release saw a fascinating response, too. Submarine is typically British, and does deserve a watch for the spectacular depiction on coming of age in a humorous way.
