Priest
Director - Scott Charles Stewart (Previous Film: Legion)
In a nutshell....
The Priest, a legendary warrior from the last Vampire war, lives in obscurity among other downtrodden humans in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the church. Priest breaks his sacred vows when his niece is captured by the vampires and has to protect her before they turn her into one of them. On his quest to save his niece, he is joined by the girl's boyfriend, a young sheriff, and a former warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly powers.
So much has been experimented in the sci-fi genre and majority of it has succeeded or at least had some or the other kind of impact, negative or positive. Priest is yet another attempt to be different in the family of these genres. I think it has an interesting story and looks impressive in terms of how it is made. I hope the makers have made proper use of the 3D technology and that this one isn't just like many other gimmicks. The actors are bankable and so I think Priest has a decent chance of having a good run on the box office.

Hesher
Director - Spencer Susser (Debut)
In a nutshell....
Hesher, a loner who hates everyone in the world, is malnourished and lives in a van where he spends time smoking cigarettes. T.J. is forced to live at his grandmother's after the death of his parents. Hesher assumes the role of his mentor and tormentor, who leads T.J. into troubles he had never imagined. Nicole, a young grocery clerk steps in to protect T.J. as Hesher tries to improve himself.
Joseph Gordon Levitt is on a high after his strong performance, which was also critically acclaimed, in Inception. Hesher, however, was shot and screened six months before Inception's release. Therefore it would be interesting to know whether it was actually the Hesher role that sent his confidence notches higher. His performance and the film, both got a great reception at 2010's Sundance Film Festival. This might be Spencer Susser's first feature film but he has made a few decent short films, and has been involved in other films in various capacities. So he has had some decent experience before this one. It'd be interesting to see how the young kid Devin Brochu has performed as the film focuses on his and Hesher's relationship. This is Natalie Portman's first film as a full fledged producer, and she seems good in her role, too. I'm sure this one will have the critics going gaga about the performances but I also hope that the general audiences go to the theatres to watch this one.

Bridesmaids
Director - Paul Feig (Previous Film: I Am David)
In a nutshell....
Annie, whose life is in a mess, readily agrees to be the maid of honour for her best friend's wedding without knowing what one has to do in such a situation. Though expensive and lovelorn, she manages her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. All hell breaks loose when the women go to Vegas for a wild party.
Bridesmaids has an interesting subject and although we may have seen films based on bachelor parties and marriages before, this one has a different feel to it as it taps the women's side of having fun before the big day. Paul Feig is returning to directing a film after 8 years, and whether this long sabbatical would help him deliver his best, remains to be seen. The cast is decent but the makers have produced some very good comedies which adds to the credibility of this film. I hope it doesn't turn out to be just another chic flick or a cheap R rated comedy. The box office results should be decent but nothing more than that can be expected.

Everything Must Go
Director - Dan Rush (Debut)
In a nutshell....
Nick Halsey is an alcoholic who relapses, causing him to lose his wife and job. He holds a yard sale in front of his lawn in an attempt to start over. A young kid, Kenny, and the new neighbour, Samantha, might be the key to his return to normalcy.
Official selection at the Toronto Film Festival, Everything Must Go is a light comedy that doesn't necessarily puts you off your seat but does win your heart. Will Ferrell has always been a joy to watch and suits perfectly in these types of roles. The special chemistry between Ferrell and Jordan-Wallace is perhaps going to be the best part about this film. The festival audiences liked the film and so did the critics who reviewed this one after the festival. I'm surprised at the lack of buzz around this one, which may hamper it's box office earnings. But it certainly promises to be a good entertaining film.
